Gabon is the 2nd largest carbon sink of the world

Gabon is part of the Congo basin: 3.7 square kilometers, one-quarter of the world’s tropical forests. There are 1,000 bird species and 400 mammal species. Most of the world’s forest elephants and great apes including chimpanzees, bonobos, and lowland and mountain gorillas, inhabit its forests. The Congo Basin provides essential global ecological services by absorbing and storing carbon dioxide—a process that can slow the rate of global climate change.
